On 31 August, our Cluster satellite Samba made a targeted reentry over the South Pacific Ocean. Scientists flew beneath its path and recorded more than 50 seconds of footage as the spacecraft broke apart high above Earth.
The glowing fragments seen here are helping researchers better understand how satellites burn up during reentry, improving future spacecraft design and disposal.
